We feel a responsibility, like alot of other people these days, to do our part to preserve the resources of this great little planet we collectively occupy. Admittedly, some of the products we use could garner "energy hog" status, from powerful amplifiers to projectors and other video displays. That said, there are a great number of ways we can contribute to the cause, such as:
1. Identify and offer products that are RoHS compliant. The RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive was initiated by the European Union and is commonly known as the "lead free" directive. However, it actually restricts the use of six substances (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ether) in the manufacture of products.
2. Offer "green" solutions. From "smart" surge protection and uninterruptible power supplies that help manage power consumption to products like lighting control and integration platforms, we can reduce the amount of energy consumption inside your home.
3. Recycle waste materials. Many of us have recycled for years, but it was hard to put into context the amount of recycled material compared to plain old trash when we used the various bins for the different recycleable materials. However, if you now "single stream" recycle at your home, you are likely amazed at how quickly the recycling container fills up compared to the trash container. It is probably even more profound for a business. At Coutura, we employ a large, single stream recycle bin and a regular trash bin. The recycle bin is serviced at twice the frequency (probably soon to be THREE times the frequency) of the regular bin. For us and others at Coutura, cardboard claims first prize as the most recycled material, while paper and then plastics follow.
4. Encourage proper disposal of rechargeable batteries. In fact, if you would like, simply drop your rechargeable batteries to us and we will ensure they are properly disposed of on your behalf!
5. We sign up for paperless invoicing with our vendors whenever possible.
6. We invoice our customers (thank you!) electronically whenever possible. In conjunction with that, we don't need a copy of the invoice back with your check. Rather, simply note the invoice number in the memo field of your check.
7. We use a paperless fax server that allows us to receive all faxes in "soft copy" format on our network, where the fax can be read and stored without ever having been printed. The fax server also allows us to fax documents from any desktop on the network, again without ever having had to print it first.
8. We use thermostat setbacks and high efficiency units at our facility.
9. We offer product solutions that can improve energy management, such as lighting control, motorized blinds, and HVAC integration capabilities.
